Go Green With Led Lights

Today it seems you are hearing a large amount about helping the planet and saving energy and turning green.  It is fantastic to see that folks are frightened about energy use and up to the minute technology is slowly getting more ecologically friendly ; one area of this is the light bulb.

Since 1879 when Edison first presented the light bulb as a replacement for kerosene lamps, folks marveled at this great invention, never thinking that there could ever be anything better.  But as we glance at the energy draining products of today, the light bulb is right at the apex of the list.  An energy guzzling device that emits a deformed yellowish glare, it’s still considered the least expensive option on the market.  In the 1920s, fluorescent lighting was employed in garages and commercial buildings where it seemed to be a good replacement for the regular light bulb.  Fluorescent lighting produces up to 75% less heat than a regular light bulb, but it also had its issues that kept it from being a suitable replacement for use at home.  The issues with fluorescent lighting were the giant tubes full of mercury, the temperature sensitivity and intermittent flickering, as well as the issues of dumping the lighting.

It was only in the 1970s that people basically started to take power usage into account and that was when the tungsten, or quartz, lamp was developed.  This bulb was great, due to the light clarity which is far better than what’s manufactured by the incandescent light bulb.  The new bulb also had a longer life span and needed lower voltage to work.

Regardless of all of the benefits and higher quality, there had been still reluctance to make the switch away from the regular light bulb since the new bulb was dearer to purchase.

people who did go in the direction of the state-of-the-art technology were doing so to cut energy use.  But now, there’s a choice that we’ve all been waiting for.  The most overwhelming and creative discovery of alternative lighting was discovered in the 1960s and is typically called the LED.

This device is made out of a silicon part that converts electric energy into light energy without the issues found in other lighting types.  Created by Nick Holonyak, known as ‘the pop of the light-emitting diode’, Holonyak has received many respects for his invention that is’s changing the globe.  The LED ( light-emitting diode ) is completely different to the other light bulbs as we all know them.  If you have ever had an electronic device, you’ll notice a little red indicator light that shows whether the unit is on or off.  This is a LED light.  There isn’t any heat given off, no twisted hint, no moving parts, a long life span and energy efficient.  At this time it is relatively expensive but the final results will show the savings and advantages of using LCD lighting.  From flat screen television’s to street lights and decorative lighting the energy saving LCD will be around for awhile.
